This semester Delaware Valley University welcomed a new music director, Dr. Britney Alcine.
Dr. Alcine is from New Jersey and has been involved in music since she was four years old.
“I am a conductor, orchestra and band enthusiast, and music lover. I enjoy many different types of music and love leading music ensembles in rehearsal and performance.”

The uniqueness of Delval’s music department caught her attention, with students who are not music majors but still meet every week to play and sing together.
She was encouraged by the presence of community members that show a value in the arts and music performance in the Bucks County-area that trickles down to the students.
“Oh, I love her!” Said senior Hannah Citron when asked her thoughts on Dr. Alcine. “She’s great. I hope she stays for a long time.”
Dr. Alcine has come in with some plans for the program.
“My goals include exploring new pieces with the musicians, elevating the performance level, showcasing the existing talent in the DelVal community, and creating new outlets and ensembles for student, university-member, and community-member performance.”
Students also seem to be excited about what she had planned. “I’m excited for the future of our ensemble just overall sounding better and learning more pieces of music and getting a lot more variety there and just finishing up my senior year with a great year for choir. I just look forward to learning as much as I can from her.”

Students can get involved by joining either the Choir, Jazz Band, or Symphonic band in the Spring, emailing Dr. Alcine at britney.alcine@delval.edu if they want to learn more. Concerts this semester are in the Life Sciences Building Auditorium. The Choir concert is at 7 p.m. Oct. 6. Bands Concerts are at 7 p.m. on Oct. 7. The Holiday Concert is scheduled for 3 p.m. Dec. 6.
