The Second Annual Relay For Life will take place Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. on Delaware Valley University’s football field.
The Colleges Against Cancer club is once again organizing this event to close out the school year. This marks another successful Relay For Life and another milestone for the club. The club’s vision is to grow the event each year, with plans to continue hosting it for as long as the club exists. The Relay For Life not only brings the university community together, but the funds raised will also support the fight against cancer.
Last year’s event, though small, was a success, and the club hopes this year’s Relay For Life will feature more vendors, activities, and participants throughout the evening. Last year’s chilly, windy, and overcast weather didn’t help attendance, so the club is optimistic for sunnier skies this time, especially with the warm weather experienced in the days leading up to the event.
This year also introduces a new theme. While last year’s event had a western theme, this year’s Relay For Life will embrace a racing theme. The club plans to incorporate more racing-related activities, and the football stadium’s running track ties into the theme both practically and symbolically.
Sam Wilton the current president of the College Against Cancer, said, “I’m super excited for this Relay since a lot of people are returning from last year. We also have a lot more community involvement and people from outside of DelVal coming. I’m hoping that everything will run smoothly unlike last year since we are more prepared than last year. We worked out a lot of hiccups and have a lot more of our members to help out.”
The event will run from 4 to 9 p.m. May 3. Admission is $20. Activities are planned for every hour, including a cornhole tournament, food, raffles, dancing, and, of course, the relay itself. After the first year, the club hopes to see even greater participation from the community in this exciting and meaningful event. They hope to continue to grow the event every year as the club itself grows.
