Opportunities are available for Delaware Valley University students just a short walk from campus.

This summer marks the first anniversary of the partnership between URBN and Delaware Valley University. This collaboration has provided resources like the Freight Farm, URBN internships, and the upcoming IGNITE Student Networking event on September 25, 2024.

The IGNITE Student Networking Event is a chance to chat with alums and other industry professionals from ten companies, including URBN. Students are encouraged to share their career goals and learn from professionals’ experiences through casual group conversations. The event will take place from 5:30-7 p.m. at Terrain. To register, students can RSVP using the Delaware Valley University Experience Link.

URBN, the parent company of Urban Outfitters, Free People, and Terrain, is one of the ten employers. URBN offers a variety of summer internships in a wide range of industries, such as marketing, landscape architecture, horticulture, and more. Among the internship applications available on the URBN home office site is an opportunity that is open for Delaware Valley University students only. The URBN Summer Internship Program will run from June 2 to August 8 and include working with career professionals at the home office in Philadelphia.

Rachel Steltzer, a Business major in the Class of 2025, completed a URBN internship after hearing about it from her advisor. She submitted her resume and cover letter and had two meetings with the URBN talent coordinator and the Senior Events Manager at Terrain before being accepted as the Café and Events Intern within a month.

Steltzer said, “There are a few roles specifically for DelVal students, which will make your chance of getting one of those positions a lot easier.” She also advises that those interested in a home-office-based internship apply as early as possible since those are highly competitive and require a project. As a Café and Events Intern, Steltzer went to the home office periodically, saying, “URBN helped me create many professional connections. I would connect with the Menus & Venus marketing team at URBN to learn what I can do in the future regarding marketing and to create a relationship.”

The paid internship consisted of 40 hours a week, split evenly between the Café and Events side of Terrain.

“There was never a day I dreaded going in since it was a pleasant place. The atmosphere is gorgeous and bright, and the team is so kind. It was genuinely fun working,” she said.

Terrain Café and Events offers year-round and seasonal employment to Delaware Valley University students and has already employed 10+ students between Café, Events, and Retail in the past year.

Now in its second year, the collaboration will continue to provide DelVal students with access to internships, networking, and resources. Tailored opportunities for students to accelerate their personal and professional growth through meaningful connections are closer than ever at Delaware Valley University. Meet with CPSD or visit the Delaware Valley University Experience Link to learn more about these opportunities.
