DelVal Weekend Activities: 5 Affordable Spots in Doylestown

By Lex Feuchter / Full360 Correspondent

Life at Delaware Valley University may get boring on the weekends when your peers return home, and you do not have plans off campus. Because DelVal is a small school, the weekends can feel like a ghost town for some college students. To stay entertained, we recommend getting out into the community and exploring a few favorite spots and landmarks around Doylestown.

Central Books Doylestown

Central Books is a small business in Doylestown and sells used books at a cheap price with two floors of book material to cover. There is a wide selection of books to choose from, such as Perks of Being a Wallflower and The Hunger Games. These prices are significantly cheaper than other bookstores in Doylestown. For instance, the price of The Hunger Games was priced at $16, but at Central Books, it sells for around $10. The staff keeps their books organized and routinely switches out books for customers. You can donate and sell your books as well. Central Books is an inexpensive place to purchase books right in the center of Doylestown.

Peace Valley Park

Peace Valley Park is in Doylestown and, given it is now spring, a perfect outdoor sanctuary to enjoy the scenery at Lake Galena. While you cannot swim in the water, there are other activities to enjoy, such as fishing and kayaking. Boats are available on the lake as well during the summer, and you can rent a paddleboat or a canoe. The park has a nice walking trail you can take by yourself, with a friend, or even a dog. If you’re seeking solace after a stressful day of classes or work, Peace Valley Park is the perfect place to relax. The nature center, where hanging birdfeeders dangle from trees, offers a great stage for wildlife, attracting photographers and birdwatchers from across the region.

Playa Bowls

Playa Bowls in Warrington is a healthy food restaurant and offers exotic dishes, such as acai and pitaya bowls. This establishment provides beach style vibes into its decoration, making it feel like summer no matter the time of year. At the register, the store has free stickers you can take. While the dishes are a bit pricey, ranging from $11 to $20, the meal is tasty and rewarding for your stomach. Playa Bowls is a nice spot to work on class assignments for an afternoon with a smoothie in your hand.

Vampa Museum

Vampa is a recently built vampire/paranormal museum in Doylestown, with an admission of $6 to $15, depending on the age group. The exhibition features historical relics dating back to the 1700s. They showcase many collections of vampire and paranormal related artworks, spanning from vampire sculptures to an antique Ouija board. There are other places to explore on the property, like an antique store. Photos of the establishment are allowed, which differs from most museums. Vampa embraces folklore, myths, and religious culture to create a breathtakingly unique museum into the paranormal.

Marshalls

Marshalls is a department store in Doylestown, with noticeably cheaper prices than other chain stores, like Target and Old Navy. The store is filled with trendy home décor and popular clothing brands, such as Michael Kors and Tommy Hilfiger. Marshalls has designer shoes as well, such as Steve Madden and Free People, for discounted prices. For example, an Urban Outfitter corset top is priced at $10, which can be sold for $25 to $75. While some prices are expensive, you are more likely to come home with at least one article of clothing compared to other high-end stores. Marshalls is nice to shop for a few hours on the weekend with a friend or by yourself.

If you are bored on a Saturday afternoon, these places are a fun way to get off campus and enjoy yourself for a few hours.
