Following last week’s campus incident in which a student was grabbed by a masked man, public officials continue to investigate the crime and are alerting students to ways to keep themselves safe.
Last week, a masked man grabbed a student who was walking past the Ulman gazebo, according to Delaware Valley University Public Safety.
The incident happened at 6 a.m. Oct. 27, and the man was wearing “some type of Halloween mask.” After the victim screamed, the man escaped and was last seen on foot running between the twin housing buildings, Barness and Cooke.
Tim Poirier, Dean of Students, said that incident “remains an active law enforcement investigation.”
Public safety officials are working with Central Bucks Regional Police. It is unclear whether officials were able to locate the man, who they describe as approximately 5′ 6″ with a “medium build and dirty blond hair.” There was no description of the man’s clothing. Central Bucks Regional Police said it would release more details on its Crimewatch site, however, as of Tuesday afternoon, no mention of the report was shared with the Doylestown community.
In the meantime, university officials and Full360 blog media reporters have provided safety tips for students on campus.
Students can call public safety any time for an escort – 24/7. All students should sign themselves up for Omnilert, which the text notification system that is activated if there is an issue of concern. Each student can sign up at: Subscriber Portal – User Log in (omnilert.net) And the public safety phone number is 215-489-4444
Public safety would like to remind students that they are here to help prevent, detect, and investigate criminal and non-criminal incidents. They also strive to educate the college community of the service offered by the Public Safety and Security Department. As well as provide general services and assistance to college personnel, students, visitors and guests.
Emergency Blue Light Telephones are located all throughout DelVal’s campus. In case of any type of emergency, anyone on campus can immediately call Public Safety.
Public Safety also recommends using the buddy system. One way is to text a trusted contact that you’re walking from point A to point B, and text them when you arrive. This way if something were to happen, someone knows where you were headed. The other way to use the buddy system is to walk with a friend from point A to point B.
This is a developing story, and Full360 reporters will provide updates as they come in.
